First semester information

Starting university is an exciting moment that brings with it many new tasks. To make sure you are well prepared, we have put together a checklist to help you keep track of all the important steps. From confirming your acceptance to activating your student ID - you should complete these tasks in good time to ensure a smooth start at Ostfalia University. Good luck and welcome to your new university!

1. Contact your health insurance company and have your insurance status confirmed
2. Register and transfer your tuition fees
3. If necessary, apply for BAföG at the Office for Educational Support
4. Look for accommodation, register at your new place of residence and forward your semester address to Ostfalia
5. Pick up your Ostfalia Card at the computer center
6. Create your timetable
7. Take preparatory courses
8. Log in to Stud.IP and Moodle and familiarize yourself with the learning platforms
9. Attend welcome events

The portal gives you access to all the web applications you will need during your studies. Under the menu item Applications > Learning Management, for example, you will find the Stud.IP and Moodle learning platforms. There you can search for specific courses and easily add them to your timetable.

You can also access the study and examination administration via the portal - it is your central location for exam registration, exam deregistration and the grade overview.

For additional security, the system uses so-called iTANs (indexed transaction numbers).

As a student or employee of Ostfalia, you will receive a chip card that you can pick up at the computer center of your university location. It is your multifunctional companion in everyday university life - known as the Ostfalia Card. You can find all the important information about collecting it on xxx.

The Ostfalia Card has these functions:

• Student ID card or service ID card with photo
• Semester ticket for bus and train
• Library card
• Access to the computer center's PC pool rooms
• Electronic wallet for the copy-print system (printer & copier)
• Payment function for the student union's canteens and halls of residence
• Locker access at the Wolfsburg campus

You can access the internet on all four Ostfalia University campuses. The computer center ensures comprehensive Wi-Fi coverage - so that you are always well connected on campus.

These Wi-Fi networks are available to you:

• eduroam - the international university network
• Ostfalia - an additional Wi-Fi network, available since September 2018
   

To log in, you will need

• Your user name - this is your access ID (see account certificate), supplemented by @ostfalia.de
  (Attention: This is not your e-mail address!)
• Your current password from your university account

All locations focus on offering a balanced menu - with vegetarian and vegan options as well as daily changing dishes. You can find the current menus on the website of the Studierendenwerk OstNiedersachsen.

At all four Ostfalia campuses, you will find a library that offers you much more than just specialist literature. You can borrow books, journals and e-books, access numerous databases or use the printing and copying facilities on site. There are also many workstations available in the Ostfalia libraries - with or without a PC, depending on your needs.
